Mary Ann Scully of Howard Bank delivers 2019 Commencement Address
Mary Ann Scully, board chair and chief executive officer of Howard Bank delivered an incredibly inspiring and meaningful address to the Class of 2019 on Saturday, June 8th, at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen. In Mary Ann's words, "Congratulations to each and every one of the graduates on this momentous occasion. We look forward to the success and impact that you, as women of Mercy, will have on our community and our world!"
Graduation Speaker Announcement:
Educated by the Sisters of Mercy in Pittsburgh, Mary Ann is a graduate of Seton Hill University, and she holds an MBA from Loyola University Maryland. In addition to her impressive professional career in the banking industry, Mary Ann has long been a proponent of Catholic education and community involvement.
A respected business and civic leader, Mary Ann is past president of Catholic Charities of Maryland, is presently a trustee for the board of Associated Catholic Charities, and is a trustee of Mount Saint Joseph College High School. She is a trustee for the Community Foundation of Howard County Real Estate board and a member of the UMBC Board of Visitors. Mary Ann serves as a board member of the Baltimore Federal Reserve and as a board member of the Greater Baltimore Committee. A graduate of Leadership Maryland, she has served on the Maryland Economic Development and Business Climate Commission. She is an active member of St. Louis Parish in Clarksville, Maryland.
Mary Ann's many awards and honors include the Howard County "Good Scout" award from the Baltimore Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and the Trailblazer Award from the Baltimore Center Club. The Daily Record has recognized Mary Ann numerous times as one of Maryland's Top 100 Women, Most Admired CEO's, and Influential Marylanders. She has also been honored as a distinguished graduate by both of her alma maters, and was named one of the Top 25 Women to Watch in Banking by American Banker.
The simplest and most practical lesson of Catherine McAuley, "to resolve to be good today, but better tomorrow," has guided our seniors throughout their four years, and Mary Ann's demonstrated leadership, business savvy, and faith, make her a natural choice to reflect on these words and share her wisdom with our graduates. Mercy High School is proud to partner with Howard Bank on the new Athletics Complex, and eagerly anticipates Mary Ann's inspiring address to the Class of 2019 at Commencement on June 8th.
