History

Mercy High School is an independent Catholic college preparatory school, grades 9 through 12, sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy. The school was founded in 1960 with a mission to provide a superior education to young women of diverse backgrounds. A Mercy education is distinguished by rigorous academics, enabling students to form habits of lifelong inquiry, critical thinking and courageous action in a global society. More than 8,000 Mercy graduates bring their Mercy values into the world, in Baltimore, and beyond.

The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Association of Independent Maryland and DC Schools. It holds membership in the Mercy Secondary Education Association, the Association of Independent Maryland and DC Schools, and the National Catholic Educational Association. Mercy has been named an Exemplary Private School by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for American Private Education.

Begun in September 1999, the Network for Mercy Education is a network of Mercy high schools "characterized by partnership among lay and religious colleagues, a faith-filled environment, cultural and economic diversity, and the pursuit of academic excellence."
