Kelly Hammett Macías - 1995
Alum Kelly Hammett Macías '95 is on track to finish her Ph.D. at Oxford, England, in May 2015. In her dissertation called Tweeting Away Our Blues: An Interpretative Phenomenological Approach to Exploring Black Women's Use of Social Media to Combat Misogynoir, Kelly examines how Black women in the U.S. and Britain use social media to discuss their lived experiences as racial and gender minorities.
Kelly also trains and coaches international organizations. She recently returned from Nicaragua where she worked on teambuilding and strategic planning with the staff of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). In January she will head to the United Arab Emirates United Arab Emirates for a similar assignment where she will be working with the staff of a USAID-funded program in Afghanistan.
